How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?
One convention we challenged is mental health. Through our music video "Stressed Out" we were able to challenge and show how teenagers in the modern age challenge a mental illness, even though all the hardships they go through. To challenge this idea, we showed the past and how much time has changed. It showed how much easier life was when we were younger and the struggles that can happen in such a short amount of time. This can represent the lower social class going through hard times throughout life. Money can be hard to get as time goes on and jobs can be harder to find, this can cause depression and emotional despair as life goes on. This music video shows both sides of the spectrum, one side of the hardships of growing up and another side of being young and having fun.
How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real text media?
Targeting certain audiences is very important when it comes to getting out certain information. Our product engages with audiences through relatability. Right now, more than ever, teenagers are struggling with mental health and our music video shows that through lyrics, camera angles and more. "Stressed Out" is a song that expresses those emotions and connects with others to express their feelings. I feel "Stressed Out" is the best fits the lyric point when it comes to representing struggles through life. As it is a music video it will mainly be outsourced to YouTube to show others, but it can be shown through any source than can show video like Twitter, or even TikTok. Even if someone doesn't want to want to watch the music video itself the song itself is available on almost every streaming service like Spotify, or Apple Music. Anyone who is feeling depressed or even feeling just a bit down can relate to the music video and see that they are not alone.
How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
In the beginning of the project me and my groupmates were not too efficient and were waiting for the last day to record our music video and almost did not make it. Even editing came down to the wire when I started. But once this happened me and my groupmates realized we could not keep waiting so long, after that all of us became ahead and managed to finish successfully. Not only did my time management get better through the quality of work improved tenfold. When I compared my work from the first project to this one it was like night and day, my editing got a lot smoother. One simple project taught me a lot about modern technology and production management. I would say that my production skills have developed throughout the course.
How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
There were many technologies used in the music video production. One was a cellphone. This was our main device through the project to get all the shots and angles when recording. A high-tech camera was not needed, and the cellphone did more than enough to do the job. Another piece of technology that was used was a computer. We used this to combine all the shots together and edit them to make it look good. We used Adobe to edit our video because it was something I was learning while producing and something I can use to make the video look incredibly good. I used google to give me some ideas for different transitions and different shots to make the video look like a professional made it. All this software and hardware's helped me not only through the editing process but recording and producing various parts of the video.
